Thank you for joining us in our mission to change our corner of the world, one kind act at a time. We are aiming to ripple out joy and kindnesses from everyone involved in this project and make the world a better place.
But changing the world through a million acts of kindness is still quite daunting, and we all need a bit of variety to keep it fun. So we’re breaking our million acts down to these 8 week-long themes.:
WEEK 1: Kindness to loved ones
We want to start local through showing appreciation to the people we love most – close friends and family. Kicking off with Mother’s Day, we’ll look at the importance of listening, going the extra mile, having adventures, enjoying laughter, and showing gratitude to those in our closest circles.
WEEK 2: Extending kindness to acquaintances, colleagues and strangers.
Week Two spreads further to acquaintances, colleagues and strangers - people that you don’t always acknowledge or have the time for. Whether it be smiling at a stranger in the street, or donating your time to charity – this week is all about compassion to those that aren’t as close to you, but potentially could be.
WEEK 3: Giving Week
This week is about donations and giving. We will donate our time, our possessions, our thoughts and feelings to others who need it. We will look at the many ways we can donate and the joy we can experience in return.
WEEK 4: Animals and Pets Week.
Week Four is all about our furry friends. Pets give us unconditional love, and can make us healthier and happier so we'll show our appreciation for our furry (feathery, or scaly) companions . We'll also work to raise awareness around animal cruelty, animal rights and humane food.
WEEK 5: Cultural Diversity Week
This week will celebrate different cultures, communities, minorities and disadavantaged groups. We will look at how different groups relate to and practice kindness, and maybe learn a little from the differences.
WEEK 6: Environment Week
Environment and Sustainability Week. This is about considering our environment. We will focus on acts of kindness which benefit our planet and immediate surroundings. This will be an excuse to stretch your legs in the great outdoors, spruce up your garden and consider sustainable practices to help the future of our planet.
WEEK 7: Volunteering Week
This week is all about volunteering. We look at the benefits of volunteering: for personal benefit, for others, the community and society in general. We will encourage you to volunteer in your local community, as well as in the wider community (i.e. hospitals, charitable organisations).
WEEK 8: Kindness to Self and Self Esteem Week
This is the week to truly realise self kindness. We recognise ourselves for the goodness we bring to the world, and look at developing long lasting improved self confidence. The kinder we are to ourselves, the happier we can feel and the kinder we can be to others. You deserve to feel good about yourself. This week we praise you for your good deeds and reflect on the past seven weeks of kindness, and the difference it has made for happiness and self-esteem.
We’ll be keeping you up to date throughout the eight weeks, and helping you out with new articles, ideas, thoughts, and things to make you smile. Tell us about your success stories, any pleasant side effects of your good deeds, pictures, videos and links or anything else you think we’d love.
Most of all, please encourage other people to sign up! Make a team at your school, your work place or with your friends so that you can interact with each other, and enjoy each other’s kindness.
